How often should I clean the cage for a rabbit that isn't litter trained?

I'm working on litter training him. So far he's got the whole peeing in the corner (with some exceptions), but not the whole pooping yet. How often do I need to clean his cage? How often should I clean the cage for a rabbit that isn't litter trained?
If the rabbit isn't litter trained, then the cage should be cleaned everyday. An unclean cage will cause all sorts of bladder and foot problems for your rabbit, so a clean cage is an absolute necessity.

It's relatively easy to litter train a rabbit once you get him to understand what you want him to do.

Depending on the size of the rabbit, there are corner litter pans available for inside the cage, but I prefer a cat litter pan because our rabbits have free roam of the house. For our bigger bunnies we use a black plastic cement mixing tub from our local hardware store.

We use something like Yesterdays News or the wood stove pellets as our litter material. We used a piece of pvc pipe cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces and lay them on their side inside of the litter pan.

We found a plastic bread tray like the ones used to deliver bread to your local food store and cut out the bottom to fit inside the litterpan. Place this on top of the cut pvc pipes. This prevents the rabbit from digging in the litter material and it also prevents him/her from tracking the litter material all over the house.

One end of the litter pan we put in their hay and keep that supplied daily with fresh hay.

We then collect bunny poo and put it in the litter pan on the opposite end of where the hay is. Put this litter pan in a area where it's ok for the bunny to use as his/her bathroom.

Some rabbits find the litter pan on their own and some have to be gently placed into the litter pan so they can check it out. Usually they start eating the hay and they poo as soon as they start eating.

Most find this very acceptable because they can do two things at one time. You know, poo and eat at the same time.

Cleaning and care of the litter pan:

With Yesterdays News or the wood stove pellets, the odor is kept low and you can get away with changing the litter pan every 3 days.

Dump the litter pan and clean it with just vinegar and water. Allow the pan to dry before putting in more litter material. The smell of the vinegar goes away pretty quickly and the rabbit will not refuse to use the litter box using vinegar and water as a cleaning agent.

Vinegar dissolves the calcium in their urine and helps get rid of any urine odors.

Also there will be times when you find your bunny happily lounging in his litter box. Don't get angry or upset and think somethings wrong. I can't answer why they do it, I just know they seem to enjoy taking a nap in their litter box.How often should I clean the cage for a rabbit that isn't litter trained?
WHEN I HAD MY RABBIT I CLEANED HIS CAGE EVERY OTHER DAY.......................MALE RABBITS HAVE MORE OF A ODER THEN FEMALES
I cleaned my rabbits cage once a week!
you really should take all his poops from the cage and put them in his litter box in the cage or he will never learn that hes not suppose to just poop all over the cage. you should clean it every day if hes peeing out of the litter box..if hes not you can just pick up the poops and put them in his litter box. its really important to keep their living space clean for the health of the rabbit...cleaning it everyday will give him a new chance to get it right and have the old accidents and the smells gone so hes more likely to get the whole idea of only going in the litter where he sees and can smell thats where it goes.. i clean my rabbits cage every few days just whenever it looks dirty and has accidents or soild food in it..once a week should be enough if theres no accidents
Clean his toilet space every day ,

the whole cage 1/2 a week ;)
I clean my rabbits cage every 3 days. Because thee pee is so strong smelling.
