Why does my rabbit have a gross bottom?

My rabbit gets matted with poop and hair on her bottom. I don't know how to get rid of it. What should I do?Why does my rabbit have a gross bottom?
There are a few main reasons a rabbit gets a dirty behind:

-the cage isn't cleaned enough

-the rabbit is ill

-the rabbit is overweight and can't reach to clean himself

-the rabbit is old and has trouble keeping himself clean

When it happens, use a warm wet washcloth to gently and slowly work the poo out of her fur. You can also bathe her bottom in the sink or in a bucket of water, but be very careful doing this, as it is very stressful to a bunny and they have very delicate skin... and look out, some rabbits really hate water.

There's some more advice on giving a wet bath and also an explanation of a dry bath in this link:http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/buttbath.h鈥?/a>

I've never tried the dry bath but it sounds worth trying. Why does my rabbit have a gross bottom?
Is the cage clean? Rabbits don't usually get caked up poop and mats on there bottom unless there cage is dirty. Often rabbits will find a particular corner they like and often urinate and poop in the same area. This area might need to be cleaned more often.

Try taking a warm wet wash cloth and gently try to get the poop off. Do not just pull it off, go slowly and let it gently break off. Just pulling it off can be painful. It might take some time before you can get it off.
This used to happen to my rabbit. We think it was because we fed him pears and veggies that it happened to him. We got a small plastic tub of water and filled it with warm water, and then just picked it off while his bottom was under the water. Oh and fill the tub up about 2 inches and DON'T get him face or ears wet. They will freak out.
Use the water hose, spray your rabbits butt with the water hose.
Use rabbit bottom cleaners. Or pick it off yourself.
