What is the difference in driving a volkswagen rabbit or any volkswagen model in sport mode?

compared to regular driving mode or D on the automatic? What is the difference in driving a volkswagen rabbit or any volkswagen model in sport mode?
the new generation of VW transmission are electronically controlled and monitored by ECU which commands the gear shifting combined with the RPM and pedal impulses. Basically the gear box ';approximates'; what the driver needs from the RPM reading and makes the shifting accordingly. For example, if you are driving looking for a parking spot, it will change gears at low RPM, just to keep the it economic, if you accelerate fast it will hold each gear to a high RPM. In sport, no matter how easy or hard you push on the accelerator, the gear box will shift around 4 - 5000 RPM, just to give as much power and acceleration possible from each gear.(the vw are known to have high torque at low RPM - starting as low as 1500 RPM in some models)What is the difference in driving a volkswagen rabbit or any volkswagen model in sport mode?
The transmission will hold the gear its in longer to let the engine rpm's rise higher to use the power band of the motor. And the shifts will also be firmer/faster.
