Why do we have problems squishing a rabbit but not an ant?

Why do we have problems squishing a rabbit but not an ant?

They are both living relatively innoccent things. Why do we have problems squishing a rabbit but not an ant?
I asked basically the same question a month ago.

My opinion is that we are selfish beings who base importance on the emotional response something produces inside of us.

For example, many people would die for the one they love--their significant other. Also, when someone flirts with them, we feel jealousy. All of these extreme emotions affect us greatly; we consider our significant other extremely important.

Yet we never shed a tear over the human beings that die every day, because we have no emotional attachment to them what so ever.

We feel some pain when watching a gorey horror movie scene because we can relate to the pain.

We feel more affected to a cute kitten rather than an ant because a cute kitten can produce an emotional response within us.

We step on ants all day yet we don't care because they are so insignificant to us.

And as for germs, well, they are living beings but we can not relate nor do they produce an emotional response within us whatsoever.

So Jason, what if I killed you? The next person to be born will take your place. -_-Why do we have problems squishing a rabbit but not an ant?
Very thoughtful and informative answer. It truly was the best answer.Take care.

We have a problem squishing a rabbit and not an ant because when we squish a rabbit we will see and hear the pain and anguish we are causing in the animal. and they are just our furry friends! They will not overtake our house and eat all our food.

ants on the other hand are so small that we are not able to see their expression or hear their cries. Furthermore, they tend to invade and take over if they are not stopped so we have to stop them as a prudent measure.
Why do people protest the violence with the seal hunt and yet you never hear of a protest about how a lobster is cooked alive? I think it has to do with the fact the picture of a baby seal being clubbed pulls more emotional heartstrings than the cooking of the lobster.

Let me clarify that both present a horrible visual but why is one considered cruelty and one considered dining out ?I guess it is all a matter of perception and what we each deem acceptable.
Well because we see rabbits as more aware as they are bigger so we see their expressions a lot easier and squashing a rabbit would make a lot of mess, whereas an ant we just see and a drone animal that is a little worker as all we see them do is crawl around harvesting for their nest, so they seem more emotionless, even though thy obviously do get scared as they try to avoid us, but that is not obvious because we are so much bigger than them.
I have a problem with destroying an ant, a bee, a spider, a blade of grass... and I will go out of my way not to kill any of the above if at all possible. I personally believe that all life human or not is precious and should not be harmed purposely, unless it is a danger to oneself.

However, too many persons feel that life is equated to size or species. A totally inane concept...

P.S. I am starring this question in that I think others should realize the question you ask is an important message.
One is a Mammal and the other is an insignificant insect!

but think about it if you were a hunter you would have no problem. right? why? Practice! we all have been smashing bugs/insects since we've been kids because they annoy us. flies, roaches, mosquitoes ants etc that's ok but little mammals were are taught that is bad to kill unless its by accident or we are going to eat it. You really want to squish a rabbit do it a few times after awhile it becomes easier and easier and soon you can do it without a thought. People on farms ring chicken's necks and slaughter cows and pigs. but its something that they practice to do.
Most people grew up being taught that way of thinking. They see parents/teachers do it, and they think it's ok. They're basically being taught that insects are worthless. Since they're at such a young age, everything gets stored in their brain so easily, that they just continuously do it without even thinking. Just another messed up thing that society teaches people.
Personally I try to avoid killing anything insect or mammal and do not eat any meat or fish. It is impossible to live and cause no harm though, the best we can do is make it our intention not to harm.
Why do we have problems squishing an ant, but think nothing of washing our hands and killing millions of innocent bacteria and virus spores?
Those sad brown eyes get to me everytime. This is probably why I can not bring myself to squish/shoot any woodland creatures.
I think it has something to do with bleeding. When I see an animal bleeding red I can relate to it.
I eat all my ';roadkill,'; but not the ants. %26lt;}:-})
ants attack viciously trying to kill but rabbits don't all try to kill
Bunnies are cute. There are about 3 trillion ants, they'll come back.
