Is it ok to buy a second rabbit?

My boyfriend and I bought a rabbit about two years ago. It is an unneutered male. He has his own room entirely to himself, but no matter how much we spend time with him we feel like he may be lonely. Would it be a bad idea to buy a second rabbit? I feel like it may be too late, and I would not buy a male rabbit because I know they would fight, but would a spayed female rabbit be ok? Do you think he is too used to being the only rabbit? Thanks for your help!Is it ok to buy a second rabbit?
You're right - he probably is lonely! Rabbits do much better in pairs, no matter how old they are when they're introduced. Where are you located? There may be an animal shelter in your area that specializes in rabbits (such as Rabbit Haven in Gig Harbor, WA - www.rabbithaven.org), and that would be the first place to go to for help with finding your rabbit a friend. Many of them will set up ';bunny dates'; so that your rabbit can meet several potential friends, and he can choose the one he likes best. Bonding rabbits can be a lot of work at first, but it's well worth it when you see how happy they are together.

A word of caution though - I would highly recommend getting your boy neutered before getting him a friend. It usually takes a month or two (or three, in my rabbit's case!) for his hormones to settle down enough that he won't constantly hump the other rabbit. My girl bunny has been very patient with my boy, and he's over that phase now and they're getting along perfectly. He was three years old when I adopted him from someone who neglected him, and he had never been around other rabbits, so he was like a geeky teenager with his first girlfriend. It was pretty funny, actually! My girl came from a shelter where she was dumped with her brother and a couple of other rabbits, so she had some social skills, and she's training my boy on how to be a proper rabbit. :-)

There are a lot of resources out there on how to bond two bunnies:

Good luck!Is it ok to buy a second rabbit?
NO its actually a great idea to adopt another bunny for him to have a friend. but you have to be carefully when finding the right one they are very picky when getting another one. when and if you do decide to get another one make sure you he picks it out I mean you have to let him meet the other one before you buy it and he will let you know if he likes that bunny. you don't want one he isn't going to like becuase they will fight until one kills the other one.
