Will my beagel puppy try to eat my rabbit?

I am getting a beagle pup, but i already have a rabbit. I know beagles are known for their hunting of rabbits. But if he grows up with it will he still try to hurt it since its in his blood? Will my beagel puppy try to eat my rabbit?
Let's put it this way... you should never ever leave your bun and your dog unsupervised. Beagles are hunters, that is their instinct. I would not risk the safety and life of your bun.

Good luck and enjoy your new puppy! Will my beagel puppy try to eat my rabbit?
Some do.
If he is around the rabbit since puppy and knows that he is not allowed to hurt it, you should be alright. Just to be safe never leave the dog alone with the rabbit.
not if he grows up with it

but be carfull just in case
i wouldnt trust him with it..high prey drive..sorry
many people will claim its a TRAINED behavior. NOT TRUE! if your beagle has HIGH PREY DRIVE, he comes with natural instinct.

For example, i have 3 border collies. ONLY ONE HAS PREY DRIVE. the 2 without will herd the prey animal, never bite. The one with prey drive will dive in and kill. NEVER TAUGHT! This is not something you can train out of them either, but can be taught to be controlled- never trusted.

Beagle may not EAT the rabbit, but MAY kill rabbit if has opportunity. Prey drive is usually present in even young dogs. Hold a small ';prey'; animal, have another person hold the dog, watch the dogs reaction. IF the pup is staring intently, predator gaze- thats prey drive. If pup body language is tight, ready to pouncy- prey drive. tail could be wagging or not....

not prey drive may look curious, snifff, wag.

Prey drive also is shown by any LUNGING behavior. If the dog sees rabbit and LUNGES at rabbit, even tho the dog KNOWS he's on a leash, its prey drive.
nope unless you let them run together that would not have a good result. the dog will not hunt down the rabbit cause it is trained not to, but if you train it then well there goes ur rabbit.
Don't let the 2 of them together without close and constant supervision- like holding one of them. There's no way to know for sure, so you don't want to chance it! I have a dog and 2 snakes, and we don't let them too close- we don't want either to get hurt.
Rabbits can be very fragile so even if he does grow up with it and the rabbit is his friend, he can still end up killing it by just playing with it the way it would play with a fellow dog. So be careful. Expose them to each other alot but don't leave them alone together because you never know.
nah. should be fine...
no, it wont. as long as there is no hostility between them when you get him there wont be a problem anytime later
